Iowa High School Football: Regina Ends Grundy Center’s Streak, Reaches State Final

A thrilling chapter in Iowa high school football history has come to a close, and it’s time to celebrate the end of an era. Iowa City Regina, a powerhouse team, has broken the longest win streak in the state, claiming their spot in the Class 1A championship game.

But here’s where it gets controversial… Regina’s victory not only secured their place in the title round but also put an end to Grundy Center’s impressive winning streak. With a final score of 24-12, the Regals dominated, showcasing their talent and determination.

Iowa City Regina and Waterloo East were tied for the longest win streaks, but the Spartans’ run will sadly come to an end at 50 consecutive wins, including three state championships.

And this is the part most people miss… It was senior quarterback Kyle Tracy who stole the show, sealing the deal with a game-winning touchdown run. His 12-yard dash in the second quarter put the Regals ahead for good, a moment that will go down in Iowa football history.

Tracy’s performance was exceptional, accumulating 122 yards passing and a touchdown pass to Drew Greve, along with an impressive 121 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. Savion Miller, with 167 yards rushing and a touchdown, was a force to be reckoned with on the ground.

The Regals’ offense was on fire, accumulating 292 yards rushing and a total of 414 yards of offense. Their defense was equally impressive, holding Grundy Center to just over two yards per carry.

Judd Jirovsky, a Stanford golf commit, led the Spartans with over 250 yards of total offense, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Regina’s dominance.

Tate Wallace, a junior with offers from Tennessee, shined on both sides of the ball, recording seven tackles with three for loss and breaking up two passes. Roan Eeckhoff and Will Litton also contributed with three tackles for loss each.

The Grundy Center defense, led by Pete Lebo with 17 tackles, put up a fight, but it wasn’t enough to stop Regina’s momentum.

So, what’s next? Waterloo East and Iowa City Regina hold the state’s longest win streak at 56 consecutive games, and now West Lyon, the 2A champions last fall, has dropped down to 1A and continues their winning streak.

West Lyon defeated South Hardin 21-7, advancing to the championship game. They will face off against Iowa City Regina in the finals next week, setting up an exciting showdown.

Evan Hildring, with his back-to-back touchdown runs, was the star for West Lyon, rushing for 174 yards and two scores. Their defense was also on point, recording four sacks and nine tackles for loss.

As we look forward to the championship game, one thing is clear: Iowa high school football is full of talent and excitement. Who will emerge victorious? Only time will tell.

What do you think? Will Iowa City Regina continue their winning ways, or will West Lyon prove their dominance? Let’s discuss in the comments and share our predictions!
